Sizing Solutions

July 2007

In my shopping experience, many of the sizing options offered within the plus-size clothing industry are consistently inconsistent. I have found that each different catalog or retail store follows their own specific sizing criteria while the name of each size of often remains the same. For example, a size 2X at one retail store could be very different than a 2X at another, there is no real continuity offered. As a plus size consumer, I find this to be a very frustrating aspect of shopping. Having to keep track of what fits well, and from where, is trying, not to mention tiring. Because my busy schedule has me juggling school and work, I feel that shopping should be relaxing, not wearying

The shopping experience at Making It Big offers a pleasant antidote. We allocate letters to our sizes, which I find as something rare within the industry. Each letter correlates to a specific set of measurements, so you can be sure to get the perfect size every time. Being a Making It Big customer, I find this distinction not only a convenience but also a necessity. I can always rely on getting a good fit when choosing within my sizing range.

This season I am especially thrilled because Making It Big has decided to offer their Fall collection in 5 sizes. Previously, most blouses and tees were offered in combined letter sizing, I wear size GH. This combined sizing method is challenging at times because my measurements fall more closely in the H range than in the G. Often I need to go up to the JK size to accommodate my hip measurement, only to find it offers a bigger fit than what I think is flattering. This is why I am so enthusiastic and excited about our new Fall collection. As an employee, I hear feedback from customers who have the same suggestions and requests as me. As a customer, I want to look fashionable and updated without compromising on a flattering fit.

With small shoulders and wide hips, it is hard to find shirts that are long, have wide upper arms, and still fit me well around the shoulders. The new size H will fulfill that need.  In addition, the new size G will offer a flattering silhouette for those whose measurements fall just shy of the H range. I see it as a new win-win situation. All around, this new addition is a much-needed complement to the already individualized size range offered.

I am eager to hear your thoughts and comments about the new sizing and the beautiful Fall catalog. I have a feeling you're going to love all the new goodies, I do!

Happy Shopping
